  18. The purpose of this updated version of INDEO.DRV (V2.11) is to 
  19. improve software playback performance.  This Indeo Video driver supports
  20. software only compression/decompression. While it does not support
  21. playback on ActionMedia(R)II or RTVideo boards, it does provide support 
  22. for software playback of video files captured by Intel's Smart Video
  23. Recorder, including 320x240 video.

  26. Installation
  27. ------------
  28. Indeo(TM) driver is distributed in compressed format as a 
  29. self-extracting ".EXE" file.  This file is named "INDEOZIP.EXE" and 
  30. contains two files: INDEO.DRV and INDEO.TXT.

  32. To install this updated version of INDEO.DRV:
  33.  
  34. To replace the older version of the Indeo driver:
  35.    * move to the windows directory [e.g. c:\windows\system]
  36.    * rename INDEO.DRV as a backup [e.g. indeo.old]
  37.    * copy the new INDEO.DRV to the windows\system directory
  38.  
  39. To verify the installation, use the Windows Control Panel, select Drivers,
  40. and double click on Indeo(TM) Video Driver from the list of Installed 
  41. Drivers.  The driver setup information will be displayed and it must
  42. report version 2.11.

  45. Enhanced Features  
  46. -----------------
  47. Indeo(TM) V2.11 driver update contains the following enhancements:
  48.  
  49.    * Software Playback:
  50.       Supports playback of AVI files captured using Intel's Smart 
  51.       Video Recorder.
  52.        
  53.    * Performance Improvements: 
  54.       Optimized algorithm for decode/color conversion to obtain the    
  55.          maximum performance on current x86 microprocessors.
  56.  
  57.    * Backoff Strategy: 
  58.       For a smoother picture during playback, improved the backoff
  59.       strategy that determines when to drop frames based on a PC's 
  60.       performance.  Autodetection of a PC's performance is
  61.       determined and adjusted for in a matter of a few frames
  62.       at the beginning of each file.
  63.  
  64.    * Zoom by 2: 
  65.       By directly implementing the "Zoom by 2" option, improved the
  66.       playback performance of larger video resolutions.
  67.  
  68.    * RGB24:
  69.       - Implemented full interpolation in Y, V and U, which improves
  70.         the color quality image in high color mode.  In addition, during
  71.         video editing, VidEdit will receive a file in the high color mode, 
  72.         which in turn, will produce a better color quality image after 
  73.         editing than was seen with the previous Indeo Video driver.
  74.       - Fixed bugs in the 24-bit code which improved both speed 
  75.          and color quality.

  77.    * Encode Improvements: 
  78.       To be ensure that the compressor is configured for the same
  79.       quality settings whether using software encode (via VidEdit) or
  80.       hardware encode (via VidCap), a new dialog box was added. This
  81.       dialog box allows the user under VidEdit to configure the compressor
  82.       for 1 of 4 states, e.g. 0=Highest Compression, 3=Highest Quality. 
  83.       The quality slider provided by Microsoft in the Compressor Option
  84.       dialog box has been disabled.

  86.    * Bug Fixes

  90.    * Video Capture Optimization & Quality
  91.       - For the best tradeoff between video compression and video
  92.          quality, set the key frame rate to 3.
  93.       - For the highest quality video and for highest quality playback,
  94.          set the key frame rate to 1.

  96. Known Problems

  98.    Hardware
  99.    --------
  100.    1. The playback of AVI files captured by Intel's Smart Video Recorder 
  101.         are software only.
  102.    2. This version of the Indeo driver is software playback only.
  103.         Therefore, it does not recognize the video accelerator boards,
  104.         such as ActionMedia II and RTVideo boards, and will disable
  105.         the hardware playback option. 
  106.    [Note: these problems will be fixed in the next release of hardware
  107.           drivers]
